<p style="text-align: justify;" data-pm-slice="1 1 []">If you’ve ever signed up for a new app using &#8220;Log in with Google&#8221; or &#8220;Connect with Spotify,&#8221; you&#8217;ve used <strong>OAuth 2.0</strong>. This protocol is the backbone of modern delegated access, but its terminology can sometimes feel like alphabet soup.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">To truly understand how OAuth works, you just need to focus on two main actors and their responsibilities: the <strong>Client</strong> (the app that wants access) and the <strong>Authorization Server</strong> (the trusted gatekeeper).</p>
<h2 style="text-align: justify;">The Client: The Requesting Party</h2>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In the context of OAuth 2.0, the <strong>Client</strong> is simply the application, website, or service that needs to access a user&#8217;s data or functionality on another platform.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Think of the Client as a <strong>hotel guest</strong> who needs access to a specific room (the user&#8217;s protected data). The guest doesn&#8217;t own the room, but they need temporary, defined access.</p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">Key Roles of the Client:</h3>
<ol style="text-align: justify;">
<li><strong>Initiates the Flow:</strong> The Client starts the entire process by sending the user to the Authorization Server. It identifies itself using a unique <strong>Client ID</strong> and specifies exactly what data it needs access to (the <strong>Scope</strong>).</li>
<li><strong>Receives the Authorization Code:</strong> After the user approves the request, the Client receives a short-lived <strong>Authorization Code</strong> from the Authorization Server.</li>
<li><strong>Trades for the Access Token:</strong> The Client securely exchanges this code for an <strong>Access Token</strong>. This exchange often involves a secret key (<strong>Client Secret</strong>) to prove the Client&#8217;s authenticity.</li>
<li><strong>Makes API Calls:</strong> The Access Token is then attached to every subsequent request the Client makes to the <strong>Resource Server</strong> (the API that holds the actual data, like Google Drive or Facebook photos).</li>
</ol>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>In short:</strong> The Client is the application responsible for starting the conversation, proving its identity to the server, and using the resulting token to get the job done.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: justify;">The Authorization Server: The Trusted Gatekeeper</h2>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The <strong>Authorization Server (AS)</strong> is the heart of the OAuth system. Its entire existence is dedicated to verifying users and issuing secure, temporary credentials. It&#8217;s usually part of the identity provider (like Google, Microsoft, or your organization&#8217;s internal identity management system).</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">If the Client is the hotel guest, the Authorization Server is the <strong>front desk manager</strong>. It holds the master keys, knows the security policy, and decides which temporary keys to issue.</p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">Key Roles of the Authorization Server:</h3>
<ol style="text-align: justify;">
<li><strong>Authenticates the User:</strong> The AS is responsible for prompting the user to log in (e.g., entering their username and password). Crucially, the <strong>Client never sees the user&#8217;s credentials.</strong></li>
<li><strong>Manages Consent:</strong> It asks the user for explicit <strong>Consent</strong>. This is the screen where you click &#8220;Allow&#8221; or &#8220;Deny&#8221; access to specific scopes (e.g., &#8220;Allow this app to see your email address&#8221;).</li>
<li><strong>Issues Tokens:</strong> Upon successful authentication and user consent, the AS generates and issues the <strong>Access Token</strong>. This token is a digitally signed ticket that represents the user&#8217;s granted permissions.</li>
<li><strong>Token Validation:</strong> When the Resource Server receives a request with an Access Token, it often communicates back with the AS to ensure the token is valid, hasn&#8217;t expired, and has the correct permissions (scopes).</li>
</ol>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>In short:</strong> The Authorization Server is the highly trusted entity that handles all sensitive identity and permission-granting logic, protecting the user&#8217;s password from the third-party application.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: justify;">The Power of Separation</h2>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The brilliance of OAuth 2.0 lies in this separation of duties:</p>
<ul style="text-align: justify;">
<li><strong>Authentication (Who you are)</strong> is handled exclusively by the <strong>Authorization Server</strong>.</li>
<li><strong>Authorization (What you can do)</strong> is defined by the <strong>Authorization Server</strong> and consumed by the <strong>Client</strong>.</li>
</ul>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;">In this assignment, you will learn how to implement a simple <em><strong>Knock-Knock </strong></em>client and a server using the so-called <em><strong>Knock-Knock protocol</strong></em>. In this scheme, a client merely tries to connect to a server and sends various queries to it. The server, on the other hand, sends back messages to the client what it considers to be quite funny. The idea ensues from the fact that a person knocks at the door of a funny, but nice, person. And the latter, instead of opening the door, replies with messages that appear either funny or annoying to the guest, depending on the state of the mind he is in. As suggested earlier, this scheme is implemented using a Knock-Knock protocol.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">What is in a protocol by the way? In communication networks, a protocol is defined as a set of rules through which multiple machines communicate with each other. What could be in a Knock-Knock protocol? In the case of the KnockKnock protocol, there are no such explicit rules for communication except for the fact that the communication happens through sockets. The only rule the KnockKnock protocol follows is that it has to react with a funny response, no matter what.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">A surprising fact about the knock-knock protocol is that it built upon the plain old echo server. You will be amazed to learn that how a seemingly application like an echo server can be changed into a bit more advanced application like the Knock-Knock server with a mundane sleight of your hands. But acquiring even this level of sleight of hands requires some practice. And in the programming world the mantra is that there is no shortcut for hands-on work. So please consider getting your hands dirty with some code if you really want to become good at computer programming.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The source code is written in Java. Please consider completing the following assignment. Seemingly, it may appear trivial to you to work on something apparently as bizarre as the Knock-Knock protocol. However, as you will progress through your academic years and look back at the Knock-Knock protocol in the hindsight, you will realize that it was a harbinger for many useful concepts not only in communication networks but also for ideas in various other feats. And let me tell you that it is not as bizarre a harbinger as you may think. Please take the following steps to complete this assignment.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;">In IPv4 the IP addresses are divided into five classes. The first three classes are equipped with a subnet mask, that basically separates the network part of the IP address from its host part. A natural question then arises that why the IP addresses in different classes range between 0-127, 128-191, 192-223, 224-239 and 240-255.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The explanation is simple and has no other strings attached to it other than that. And the explanation is that in the first class (class A) the first bit of the first octet of the address is set to zero and that is why the allowable addresses in this class can only vary between 0-127. Similarly, in class B the first two bits of the first octet of the address should be set to 10 and that is why the addresses can only be between 128-191. Likewise, for class C, D and E, the first octets of the IP addresses have to be set to 110, 1110 and 11110 respectively. Consequently, the IP addresses can only be between 192-223, 224-239 and 240-255 respectively. Please do the binary conversions yourself to verify that this is really the case. Other that that, as one might think, there is no arcane explanation associated with this idea. Please peruse the following article to soothe your curiosity.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;">This assignment is about developing a remote command execution program. The language that has been used is java and it makes use of the bash shell to enable command execution at some point on the server side. The idea is to understand how the magic happens. Please take the following steps in order to complete this assignment.</p>
<ol>
<li><a href="https://github.com/adilraja/Telnet-Oracle" target="_blank">Fork the source code of the remote command executor from GitHub</a>.</li>
<li>Clone it now to your local machine on which you are going to work.</li>
<li>Understand the code.</li>
<li>Enable the server to work without bash. HINT: <a href="http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/lang/ProcessBuilder.html" target="_blank">Configure the ProcessBuilder object so that PATH to executable commands is specified to it</a>.</li>
<li>Push the changes back to your remote repository.</li>
<li>Send me a pull request too.</li>
